Modern Theatre Dance combines a range of movement exploring different styles from blues, jazz to lyrical, technique and improvisation.
The classes follow the National Association of Teachers of Dancing (NATD) Modern Theatre graded syllabus, helping to develop the students dance performance and technique. With a mixture of set exercises and teacher arrangements the student learn both style & strength allowing them to progress up the grades becoming confident dancers. Having knowledge and understanding in musicality, rhythm and body awareness.
Within the graded classes I also think it is very important to allow the student to explore their own choreography helping them embrace dance improvisation, whether this is through creative movement tasks, rhythmical appreciation or asking them to assist with ideas for a dance movement. By adapting the idea of choreography and improvisation this helps broaden the students dance knowledge, as they explore movement outside their set grade.
Along side the graded examinations the students will also be offered the chance to enter for Medal Tests & Rainbow Awards. These are performance exams in which the participant performs a sequence of technical exercises and dances in costumes; Medal tests & Rainbow Awards are an additional examination on top of the graded syllabus.
